Purdue experienced a brief stint at No. 1 and slid down in the updated AP Poll after taking its first loss of the 2023-24 season.

Coming out of the Maui Invitational, the Boilermakers ascended to the No. 1 spot in the country. Matt Painter’s squad was particularly dominant in Hawaii with three straight wins over top-15 programs.

Unfortunately, suffered its first loss of the season with a B1G opener on the road. Northwestern shot 50% from 3-point range and Boo Buie delivered 31 points as the Wildcats upset the Boilermakers 92-88.

After the loss, Purdue dipped to No. 4 in Monday’s latest AP Poll while not receiving a single first-place vote. Arizona rose to the top spot and generated 59 first-place votes with Kansas (1) and Houston (3) rounding out the top of the poll.

So far this season, 3 teams have had a stint as the No. 1 team with Kansas, Purdue and now Arizona spending time in the top spot. Now, the Wildcats will try to fend off upset bids as the current top team in the country.
