Things didn’t quite end the way Purdue had hoped in its season-opening road trip to Nevada, but Brycen Hopkins is returning to West Lafayette with some recognition.

On Tuesday, the Mackey Award announced that Hopkins has been named the nation’s Tight End of the Week following a stellar outing in Purdue’s 34-31 loss to Nevada on Saturday. He finished the game with six receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown.

The six receptions were a career-high for Hopkins. The 84 yards were the fourth-highest career. His best yardage outing game in last year’s game against Missouri, totaling 136 receiving yards in a loss to the Tigers.

Hopkins was the first Boilermaker to reach the end zone in 2019, catching a short pass from Elijah Sindelar in the back of the end zone on the first possession to give Purdue a 7-0 lead early in the game.

Last season, Hopkins finished the year with 583 yards and two touchdowns on 34 catches.
