Purdue has been playing the spoiler all year, and on Saturday when the Boilermakers took down undefeated and then No. 5 Michigan State, it marked their second win over a top-5 team this season.

Much of the reason was the play by Boilermakers quarterback Aidan O’Connell. Already with the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of Week on his resume, O’Connell was also tabbed the PFF College Football Offensive Player of the Week.

O’Connell racked up an amazing 536 yards against the Michigan State defense, and was never even close to being picked off. From the point the game was tied after the first quarter, O’Connell and the Purdue offense ran off five consecutive scoring drives. His yardage total on the day was the third-best in Boilermakers history.

The Boilermakers have a history of knocking off high-ranking teams, and the win over the Spartans marked their 17th — the most in FBS history.

Purdue will try and do it again when they travel to Columbus this weekend to take on No. 6 Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 13 with a 2:30 PM kickoff.
