Jeff Brohm had some concerns about his offense, but several players on defense including former Indiana transfer cornerback Reese Taylor stood out in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Purdue has 9 starters returning on a highly efficient defense that finished last season with the 34th-ranked scoring defense in the nation (22.4 points allowed per game). Taylor is a former starter for Indiana that looks to provide consistency and stability to the defense of Purdue.

In his four seasons at Indiana, Taylor accumulated 69 total tackles, 63 solo tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 11 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions.

After the scrimmage, Brohm discussed his stellar play of Taylor throughout the camp and on Saturday in a media session (Via GoldandBlack.com).

“Instinctive. You can tell he’s played a lot of football,” said Brohm. “Being a high school quarterback, he understands route concepts, QB eyes, and shoulders. He’s aggressive in his approach and it has made him lock things down really well. We’ve had a hard time completing balls against him.”

Hopefully, Taylor proves to be a key piece for the defense in a strong year for the Boilermakers.
