Robbie Hummel is reportedly leaving ESPN’s college basketball coverage for the 2023-24 season. However, it’s not all bad news for Hummel of B1G hoops fans.

According to Andrew Marchand with the New York Post, the former Purdue star is leaving ESPN but will land at NBC and Fox. Hummel had been with ESPN for 6 seasons but is leaving with the network no longer attached to the media rights package for B1G basketball.

Marchand reports Hummel is expected to be used for a number of Tuesday games on Peacock as a part of NBC’s portion of the B1G’s media deal. He will also be used on FOX and FS1 while continuing to work Big Ten Network broadcasts, which makes sense with Fox Sports and BTN maintaining common ownership.

Here are the full details of Marchand’s report:

  • Hummel, 34, leaves ESPN after six seasons with the network. ESPN previously had the Big Ten for four decades.
  •  NBC’s deal with the Big Ten prominently featured its Saturday night college football package. It also will have college hoops games on Peacock during the week. Hummel is expected to get a lot of run on Tuesdays.
  • Hummel will also call hoops for Fox and FS1. ESPN is out of the Big Ten college hoops business beginning this season.
  • Hummel will continue on the Big Ten Network. This is easy because Fox Sports and the Big Ten Network have common ownership.

Hummel was a star for Matt Painter’s Boilermakers with 120 career starts from 2007-12. He was a 3-time All-B1G selection and was once named the B1G Tournament MVP.

During Hummel’s playing days, Purdue captured the 2009 B1G Tournament title and the 2009-10 regular-season league title. The Boilermakers made it to the NCAA Tournament every season with Hummel in the lineup.
