Ryan Walters gave his thoughts on a multitude of different topics on Friday. The Purdue HC is just beginning his career with the Boilermakers.

Walters is confident in the ability of AD Mike Bobinski and Deputy AD Tiffini Grimes to provide him with the resources to compete in the current era of NIL. Walters talked about this on the ‘Kevin & Query Show’ on The Fan in Indianapolis.

“I think it’s competitive,” Walters said this week during an interview on the Kevin & Query Show on The Fan in Indianapolis. “(AD) Mike (Bobinski) and (Deputy AD) Tiffini (Grimes), they’re rock stars and they understand what the landscape is now and what kind of resources we’re going to need to be competitive in this conference.”

The transfer portal is also something that has become a part of college football, whether some people like it or not. Walters broke down what the transfer portal means to players and coaches.

From a player’s perspective, it gives you freedom, because maybe this isn’t the right place. You got to figure out for yourself, ‘Where can I go play? Where can I thrive in an environment?’ And then from a coach’s perspective, it’s ‘OK, yes, we’re short on numbers in this class, at this position. Now we can go to the transfer portal and find somebody with experience.’ We can get a more accurate evaluation than we can maybe a high school guy. I think it’s beneficial for both sides.
