The NFL has a new name in its record book. The league’s all-time passing yards leader is officially Drew Brees.

Brees became the NFL’s all-time leading passer on Monday night, as the New Orleans Saints battle the Washington Redskins. He broke it on a 62-yard touchdown pass Tre-Quan Smith in the second quarter, bypassing Peyton Manning at the top of the list.

Manning previously set the record with 71,940 yards in his career.

Becoming the all-time passing leader was just the latest of a laundry-list of career accomplishments for the former Purdue quarterback. He’s an 11-time Pro Bowl selection, a Super Bowl Champion and Super Bowl MVP.

Entering Monday’s game, Brees had thrown for 1,295 yards and eight touchdowns this season.

Brees is an unlikely candidate to become the NFL’s all-time passing leader. Not only was Brees knocked for his small stature, he suffered a serious injury while with the San Diego Chargers early in his career. There was a significant chance he wouldn’t be able to play again.

Since arriving in New Orleans, though, Brees has been one of the league’s most dominant quarterbacks and has won the hearts of an entire city.

Congratulations to Brees on the incredible accomplishment.
