The Boilermakers had lost 3 straight games in Piscataway coming into this contest. That includes Rutgers’ 70-68 win back in December of 2021, which included a game-winning 3-point shot from Ron Harper Jr at the buzzer.
On Sunday, Braden Smith was the only other Purdue player to score in double figures with 19 points. He also collected 6 rebounds and 2 assists in the win. Lance Jones amassed 4 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high 8 assists against the Scarlet Knights.
As a team, Purdue shot 48.9% from the field. It was able to overcome a poor 3-point shooting game as well — just 26.3% from beyond the arc.
Purdue is now 8-2 in Big Ten play and is in good shape in the race for the Big Ten regular season title. Wisconsin is in 1st place with an 8-1 record. Purdue will get 2 shots at Wisconsin before the end of the regular season to try to overcome the Badgers in the standings.
Up next for Purdue is Northwestern at home on Wednesday night.
