Zach Edey banked in the first 3-pointer of his career on Saturday night in Purdue’s 79-59 win over Indiana.

Edey, the national player of the year frontrunner, found the bottom of the net from distance with just over 5:30 left in the 2nd half on Sunday night. His 3-ball gave the Boilermakers a 26-point lead over IU.

Here’s Edey’s first-ever made 3-pointer:

This was just the second 3-point attempt of Edey’s career. Both long-range tries have come this season. Edey typically limits his shot profile to attempts at the rim, where he’s arguably the most efficient player in the country. According to BartTorvik, Edey has made 83.2% of his shots at the rim this season — and elite number even compared to other centers.

After the game, Edey was asked about whether or not he called ‘bank’ on his 3-pointer.

“I’m the best shooter in the country and I’m going to leave it at that,” Edey joked.

Purdue has now won 8 straight games and is a frontrunner to repeat as Big Ten regular season champions.

Edey and the Boilermakers will be in action again on Thursday against Minnesota.
