Zach Edey posts incomparable measurements alongside strong NBA Draft Combine performance
Zach Edey is a big human being, and that’s nothing new to Purdue or fans of the Big Ten who watched his dominant 2-year run through the conference. However, his official measurements at the NBA Draft Combine stagger the imagination.
According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Edey measured 7-foot-5 in his shoes and 299 pounds with a staggering wingspan that approached 7’11”. Edey was listed at 7-foot-4 by Purdue.
With that kind of size, it’s hard to find any comparison for Edey’s stature. Givony included Shaquille O’Neal and Boban Marjanovic as the closest comparisons in the Draft Express database. O’Neal’s athleticism trumps the star Boilermaker, but Edey’s game and impressive conditioning outweighs what Marjanovic brought to the table.
Hard to find physical comps for Zach Edey with his absurd measurements: 7-foot-5 in shoes, 299 pounds with a near 7’11 wingspan. The DX database suggests 20-year old Shaquille O’Neal and Boban Marjanovic as his closest comparisons. pic.twitter.com/RByWlqlexS

Zach Edey’s NBA Draft prospects
After back-to-back National Player of the Year Awards, Edey is arguably the most polarizing player in the NBA Draft. Some wonder if his skill set translates to the NBA after dominating college players in the low post, but Edey is adamant he brings more to the table.
“Every team needs someone to hold down the paint, needs someone to grab the rebounds, needs someone to block shots, needs someone to finish the lob, needs someone to do all those things,” said Edey about his skill set. “Not everything has to be with me having the ball in my hands in a post-up.
“Obviously at Purdue, it was a lot of post-up, but if you really watched the game, it was a lot of ball screens, and that’s what they run in the NBA… it’s a lot of stuff that I’ve played on ball screens. That’s an NBA offense.”
Along with the skill Edey flashed at Purdue, he was vocal at the combine about being able to shoot the ball from 3-point range. While that claim may catch some fans by surprise, he displayed solid shooting form and delivered an impressive showing in the shooting drills.

Another key aspect of his game, Edey displayed impressive agility to go with his size. After showcasing his stamina throughout the NCAA Tournament, it is fair to say Edey is not the typical 7-footer with enough stamina, agility and skill to find a consistent role in the NBA.

At this point, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Edey to become a lottery pick, and he’s increasingly likely to be a surefire first-round selection. Fans can stay up to date with the latest NBA Draft odds and get in on the action with Tradition’s BetMGM Ohio promo code.
