There is such a thing as bulletin board material. We’ve all heard it before.

Before two teams face each other, one player or team talks a bunch of crap. They’ll say how great they are or how bad their opponent is. Again, we’ve all heard it.

This Saturday, Rutgers is hosting Boston College. Rutgers is 1-1, while Boston College is 2-1. Neither team is a powerhouse this season, we’ll put it that way.

On Thursday, just a couple days ahead of the final non-conference game of the season for both teams, Boston College linebacker Max Richardson talked about the Scarlet Knights’ offense:

“They (Rutgers) have a high-powered offense and really good backs,” Richardson said. “What they are going to try to do us, they are going to try and run the ball.

“We didn’t stop the run against Kansas, so why wouldn’t they come in with their big-time backs and try to run the ball right up the gut? We have been preparing hard for the speed and the physicality of it and we are pushing. We are trucking right along.”

OK, we understand respecting your opponent. And yes, Rutgers does have quality backs that have put up numbers in the past. But to call the Scarlet Knights’ offense a high-powered one is a bit… you can think of a word for it. There are plenty of words for it.

Rutgers’ offense last year ranked 129th in the country in scoring. It averaged 13.5 points per game. Only one time did the Scarlet Knights score more than 17 points.

To call it high-powered?

We’ll call it bulletin board material in a different sort of way.
