The B1G East coaching tree shakedown continues.

Last year, it was Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi leaving for Pitt.

Earlier this week, it was Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin leaving for Maryland.

On Saturday, it was Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash leaving for Rutgers.

According to NJ.com, the Urban Meyer disciple is set to fill the vacancy at Rutgers. The report said Ash will be introduced as the program’s new coach on Monday, pending approval from the university’s Board of Governors.

Sports Illustrated first reported that the deal was being finalized.

Ash, 41, will take over the position left by Kyle Flood, who was fired on Sunday following a four-win season that saw him and several Rutgers players suspended and kicked off the team for various off-field issues.

On the field, Ash and the Buckeyes finished in the top 10 in total defense while Rutgers ranked 112th. A defensive mind like Ash would certainly help the Scarlet Knights turn that number around. In his two years in Columbus, Ash compiled a 25-2 record working alongside Meyer.

A former assistant at Wisconsin, Ash also worked with Bret Bielema in Madison and followed him to Arkansas to serve as his defensive coordinator there, as well.

The move marked the first major decision made by newly hired Rutgers athletics director Patrick Hobbs, who took over for Julie Hermann on Sunday following her departure.

It marked the second time in as many years that Meyer lost one of his top assistants. Last year, offensive coordinator Tom Herman left to take the head job at Houston following the Buckeyes’ national championship run.

There’s no word yet as to whether or not Ash would coach the Buckeyes in their bowl game.
