Saturday was a historic win for Rutgers as the Scarlet Knights went into East Lansing and bested Michigan State 38-27.

That Big Ten win was Rutgers’ first since 2017. While some Scarlet Knight fans may be rejoicing in a long awaited conference win, some Rutgers players enjoyed their first Big Ten win as a member of the program.

One of those players who celebrated his first Big Ten win as a Scarlet Knight was sophomore defense back Avery Young. Heading into his third season at Rutgers, Young said publicly he believed a new era had arrived for the Scarlet Knights as Greg Schiano returned as head coach.

So far, Young’s words have proven to be true and his excitement was evident after the win.

For as much slack as the Scarlet Knights get as the punching bag of the Big Ten, this is a feel-good story for these Rutgers players who have put it on the line week in and week out. It’s just one game, but this seems to be an improved Scarlet Knight squad hungry to shut up some of the voices complaining about the program’s standing in the conference.
