This season has not been kind to the Scarlet Knights as Rutgers dropped its fifth straight game Saturday.

Rutgers entered Saturday’s game against Illinois desperate for a win but was unable to do enough to break through. The defense surrendered 24 points in the first half and 38 points for the game as Illinois QB A.J. Bush Jr. accounted for three total touchdowns.

In the end, the Scarlet Knights fell well short of getting the win, but head coach Chris Ash was asked about some of his late-game decisions afterwards. In particular, Ash was asked about the decision to kick a field goal late in the fourth quarter with the Knights trailing by 17 points. The decision received boos from the fans in attendance, and Ash was also asked about the decision in his press conference.

One reporter indicated it was understandable that the fans booed the choice to kick a field goal, but Ash disagreed. Keith Sargeant with the NJ Advance Media shared a screenshot of the exchange:

Regardless of the decision, Rutgers is now 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in B1G play.
