ESPN’s FPI is predicting the 2022 season, and that includes Rutgers’ shots at getting to a bowl game. After serving as a late fill-in during the 2021 postseason, the Scarlet Knights are searching for their first 6-win bowl berth since 2014.

With a 3-0 start in nonconference play, Rutgers has done all it can to boost its odds heading into the B1G slate of the schedule. Unfortunately for the Scarlet Knights, the B1G East looks deeper and tougher than ever in 2022.

According to the Football Power Index, Rutgers is given just a 43.4% shot of reaching 6 wins, the traditional mark needed for bowl eligibility. That number has at least gone up since the beginning of the season, but the schedule ahead still paints a tough road for Greg Schiano’s squad.

That tough slate begins in Week 4 with a visit from Iowa in what should be a tough, defensive-minded showdown. Rutgers also gets Nebraska and Minnesota as a part of the crossover schedule, so nothing will come easy in conference play.

We’ll see if Schiano and the Scarlet Knights can pull off a few upsets and continue the upward swing for the program in Piscataway.
