ESPN's Rece Davis explains why Rutgers is having success so far in 2021
Rutgers looks great through 3 games.
The Scarlet Knights look rejuvenated, especially on defense. They lead the B1G in turnover margin (+8) and opponent 3rd down conversion (17.5%), and rank 2nd in yards per play allowed (4.22).
Greg Schiano has his group playing well, and it’s garnering some national attention. ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis is one of those national analysts taking notice, tweeting why he thinks Rutgers shouldn’t be taken lightly this season.
I believe Michigan will beat Rutgers. But if you’re going to fix a program, you’d start by not turning ball over all season, +8 TO margin, leading nation in fewest penalties pg, & lead nation in net punting. First, do no harm to yourself. That’s Rutgers. Make them earn it.

Schiano is in year 2 of his second go-around at Rutgers, which started with a 3-6 record in the COVID-impacted 2020 season. The Scarlet Knights have already matched last season’s win total with their 3-0 start to the season.
As much attention as Rutgers is getting for its defense, its offense has also been doing its job, to the tune of 41 points per game.
We’ll see if the Scarlet Knights can keep this going into B1G play, starting with a matchup with Michigan in Ann Arbor this week.
