Carnell Davis, a freshman wide receiver for Rutgers, was reportedly knocked unconscious and injured in a fight over the weekend.

According to Ahmad Austin with the Press of Atlantic City, Davis was involved in an altercation with a man over the weekend. In a video of the reported altercation (which can be seen here), Davis can be heard referencing that the man was “talking about (his) mom.”

According to a source in Austin’s article, the man involved with Davis exchanged words and was the first to get physical, shoving Davis backward:

“Apparently there were some words exchanged between Carnell & some other older guy,” the person who posted the video said on Facebook. “The guy provoked Carnell by saying sexual harassment things to Carnell about his mom. Carnell obviously questioned him on it.” The guy initiated the first move, shoving Carnell, the Facebook user said in the post. “Carnell responded by defending himself with hands up.”

According to a Tuesday statement by Rutgers, Davis is home and recovering with his family:

“Our main concern is Carnell’s health and well-being,” a Rutgers Football spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday. “He is home with his family and continues to make progress in his recovery. We look forward to getting him back on campus soon.”

Davis was a three-star commit for the Scarlet Knights for the class of 2021.
