Greg Schiano addresses waiver status of LB Drew Singleton
Drew Singleton finds himself in an odd situation entering 2022.
After the 2022 season for Rutgers, Singleton announced his plans to enter the NFL Draft and forego his extra season of eligibility. When the Scarlet Knights were a late addition in bowl season, Singleton returned to the team and played in the game.
Unfortunately, Singleton was injured in that game. Head coach Greg Schiano admitted that move and injury likely hurt his draft status as Singleton went undrafted and did not get signed as a free agent.
Asked about the situation during his B1G Media Days appearance, Schiano said the team is still waiting on a waiver decision after Singleton applied to regain his eligibility for the 2022 season. Traditionally, players who declare for the NFL Draft are ineligible to return.
Schiano also said Singleton is trying to “do things the right way” and hopes “cooler minds prevail” on the waiver request.
“We’re hopeful that cooler minds prevail…he’s trying to do the right thing. I hope we’re able to do the right thing and get him back here,” explained Schiano.
