Rutgers moved to 1-0 with a blowout win over Temple in Week 1, and the Scarlet Knights are also getting an early arrival in the coming days.

Following Saturday’s win, head coach Greg Schiano was asked about a Friday evening report about quarterback prospect Gavin Wimsatt. Wimsatt is a 4-star prospect in the class of 2021 who committed to the program in April. Friday’s report indicated Wimsatt had plans to forego his remaining high school schedule and enroll at Rutgers early, similar to Quinn Ewers’ move to Ohio State.

Schiano confirmed that is the plan:

“The family saw (the Quinn Ewers situation at Ohio State), and they asked – really just curiously – could we do that? So we said we can look into it if you want to,” said Schiano.

Schiano is expecting Wimsatt’s arrival over the weekend. As for his role in 2021, Schiano’s main goal is getting Wimsatt used to the program and what it takes to be a college player in the B1G:

“He played in his 3rd game last night, now he’ll be coming to Rutgers, I think he’ll be arriving Sunday sometime,” explained Schiano, “And we’ll get him started in classes on Monday.

“His role – look, he was playing in a high school game Friday night. I’m not going to put the cart before the horse. We’ll just get him here and get him acclimated…but it’s going to be great to get him here, get him started.”
