Greg Schiano had some rough news to share out of Piscataway.

The NCAA has denied the eligibility appeal of Drew Singleton. It’s an unfortunate ruling for the linebacker after getting hurt in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl last season. Singleton decided to return and play in the game after declaring for the NFL Draft.

On top of it all, Rutgers was a fill-in opponent after Texas A&M suffered a Covid-19 outbreak. The Scarlet Knights would go on to lose to Wake Forest 38-10.

Singleton did not hear his name called during the draft; nor was he signed as a free agent.

This is a bitter blow towards Singleton. After all, the NCAA has made it known that they want players to play in bowl games. And for that, they denied his waiver.

Head coach Greg Schiano expressed his thoughts.

“The NCAA ruled against us,” said Schiano per Greg Patuto with OnTheBanks.com. “S0 there is another step, a last step that we certainly going to try.”

Singleton played in 13 games (9starts) as a senior. He recorded 4 tackles and a sack against the Deamon Deacons.
