Rutgers is still planning to have a game to close out its spring practices later this year. Head coach Greg Schiano recently revealed the date.

According to Chris Nalwasky of Rutgers Rivals, Schiano says the Scarlet Knights will take part in a spring game on May 1. The team plans to start practices in late March and run through April before closing out with the annual spring game.

It’s unclear right now whether or not fans will be permitted to attend the spring game, a decision that will likely be made at a later date. Rutgers will have 34 days to fit in 15 spring practices, as is the standard for all college football teams.

Last season, the Scarlet Knights weren’t able to get in much work in the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be Schiano’s first full spring season with the team since returning as the head coach following the 2019 campaign.

Despite the lack of spring ball, Rutgers still finished last year with a 3-6 record, snapping a 21-game B1G losing streak in the season opener by defeating Michigan State. The Scarlet Knights hadn’t won a league game since 2017.

Rutgers is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Temple.
