Greg Schiano says Rutgers currently battling flu bug
Greg Schiano’s return to Penn State didn’t as planned. Rutgers were shut out 28-0 and now the Scarlett Knights will need to win against Maryland to keep their bowl season hopes alive.
While the team were stopped in all phases, Schiano revealed that there may have been another reason as to why Rutgers wasn’t able to have any success in Happy Valley.
In a press conference on Monday, Schiano stated that the team was dealing with the flu the week leading up to the Penn State game, and that they may have a similar situation for the Maryland game.
Greg Schiano: “We’re up against it a little bit. We’ve had a flu bug going through the team all last week. It’s continuing on. It’s something we’re still battling right now. … Unfortunately I feel like we’re going to be in a similar situation (this week).”

The Scarlett Knights and Terrapins will be meeting for the 17th time since both joining the B1G in 2014. Rutgers managed to win last year’s game in College Park 27-24. We’ll see how the team’s reported flu issues will have an impact leading up to the showdown.
Rutgers (5-6) and Maryland (5-6) will both be looking for their first bowl game appearances as neither Schiano or Locksley have made it to the post season since taking the head coaching jobs. The Scarlett Knights and Terrapins play Saturday at 12 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
