Ian Strong and Rutgers are off to a strong start this Sunday afternoon in Week 1 of the 2023 season in a B1G matchup against the Northwestern Wildcats.

On the 16th play of the opening drive for the Scarlet Knights, quarterback Gavin Wimsatt found wide receiver Ian Strong in the corner of the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown. While the pass was impressive, Strong’s determination to catch the tightly-contested ball and get his feet down was impressive.

Strong came in as a 3-star athlete in the 2023 National Recruiting Class, according to 247Sports Composite. He was the 8th-rated athlete from the state of New York. He made the switch from safety to wide receiver during the offseason.

Rutgers is 3-2 versus Northwestern, with the Wildcats have won the previous 2 matchups. The last time the two teams met on the field was in 2021, when Northwestern defeated Rutgers 21-7 in Evanston, Illinois.
