A familiar face is set to be the director of sports performance on Greg Schiano’s staff at Rutgers.

On Thursday, the program announced the hiring of Jay Butler, who will be the director of sports performance at Rutgers. He was previously on Schiano’s staff from 2001-11, during his first run with the Scarlet Knights. He also followed Schiano to the NFL, where he was the head of strength and conditioning with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Butler most recently was the head of physical conditioning at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida from 2017-19.

“Jay’s hire as director of sports performance is huge for our program,” said Schiano. “His influence extends far beyond the weight room or practice field. Jay is passionate about mentoring young men and is someone I have great trust in. We are thrilled to have Jay and his family back home in New Jersey.”

Schiano is putting some of the finishing touches on his staff at Rutgers as the program prepares to enter winter conditioning and spring practice for the 2020 season.
