A three-star linebacker out of Tampa, Florida has verbally committed to Rutgers.

Austin Dean gave his pledge to Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights on Tuesday, becoming the 15th player in the 2021 class to commit. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker announced his decision with a post on Twitter.

“I have committed to continue my academic and athletic career at Rutgers University,” Dean wrote. “Thank you Coach Schiano for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me.”

Dean is ranked as the No. 60 inside linebacker in the 2021 recruiting class and is listed as one of the top 200 prospects out of the state of Florida. He joins a Rutgers class that currently ranks 21st nationally and eighth in the B1G.

Dean is a three-sport athlete at Berkeley Prep, also wrestling and participating in track and field. On the field, Dean is coming off a strong season, totaling 40 stops, including 21 tackles for loss and six sacks.

Over the last two seasons, Dean has collected 95 tackles, 46 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
