Hosting the first ever intercollegiate football game on November 6, 1869, Rutgers defeated the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) by a score of 6-4.

Despite the program’s struggles since joining the Big Ten in 2014, this game 150 years ago has allowed Piscataway to lay claim to the title “The Birthplace of College Football.”

To celebrate a century-and-a-half of college football, Rutgers and Adidas unveiled their long sleeve throwbacks for the 2019 season on Twitter on Thursday.

The Scarlet Knights have compiled a 652-659-42 all-time record, good for a .497 winning percentage. Their one claimed national title occurred in 1869, and the program has a 6-4 record in bowl games.

Entering his fourth season at the helm, head coach Chris Ash has guided his teams to just a 7-29 (3-24) record. A staple on most “hot seat” lists, year four for Ash is setting up to be a very important one for this program.

They will look to get started on the right foot when they host UMass at 7:15PM ET on Friday.
