Mawot Mag went down with a serious knee injury in the first half of Saturday’s game against Michigan State.

Rutgers announced on Tuesday that Mag is out for the season as he was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee this week.

Mag was in the midst of a breakout season.

Mag started every game for Rutgers this season, and averaged 7.8 points and 5.3 rebounds-per-game. Mag was a presence defensively, with a steal-per-game. The third-year forward also averaged a career-high in minutes (25.4).

“We’re going to miss Mawot greatly,” head coach Steve Pikiell said in a statement. “He’s a high-energy player, a veteran presence and the ultimate glue-guy. He’s one of our best team defenders and one of our best offensive rebounders. There’s not a better person in our program and we can’t wait to see him back on the floor in front of Rutgers Nation.”
