Report: 2 Rutgers defenders, including projected starter, dismissed from the team
Rutgers isn’t expected to do much in the 2018 season, but the Scarlet Knights certainly aren’t doing themselves any favors, either.
On Wednesday, it was reported that a pair of defenders had been dismissed from the team by head coach Chris Ash.
According to a report from 247Sports, S KJ Gray and LB Brendan DeVera had been dismissed for a violation of team rules:
The Rutgers football team will be minus two scholarship players when training camp begins in the first week of August. Scarlet Nation has confirmed with sources that safety KJ Gray and linebacker Brendan DeVera have both been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.
The loss of Gray is particularly hurtful for Rutgers, as he was expected to be the team’s starting strong safety this fall. He recorded 55 tackles (2.5 for a loss), 1.5 sacks and two interceptions as a backup in 2017.
DeVera, according to the report, was mostly a special-teams contributor, but was likely to be listed on the two-deep at middle linebacker this fall.
