Report: Rutgers announces starting QB for Week 1 vs. UMass
College football is officially back.
Week 0 was completed last weekend and starting tonight, Big Ten action begins as Minnesota takes on South Dakota State. After that, a few more B1G games — including Rutgers — will be played on Friday, but then the first full Saturday of action will be upon us.

Rutgers is taking on UMass at 7:15 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 30 at home. The game will be televised on BTN.
One thing we didn’t know about the Scarlet Knights until Thursday night was who the starting quarterback would be. Well, now we know:

“McLane Carter is QB1,” James Kratch of NJ.com wrote. “The Texas Tech graduate transfer will start at quarterback for Rutgers in Friday night’s season opener against UMass, five individuals with knowledge of the decision told NJ Advance Media.”
McLane Carter has apparently beat out Artur Sitkowki, the returning sophomore starting QB from a year ago. Carter is a Texas Tech graduate transfer who has thrown for 677 yards, 4 TD and 4 INT over the past two seasons as a member of the Red Raiders.
Last season, Rutgers finished 1-11 overall, while UMass went 4-8.
