Harper’s decision is according to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein:

This is huge news for the Scarlet Knights, as they look to build on last season’s NCAA Tournament berth.

Baker and Harper are two of Rutgers’ top three leading scorers from last season. Jacob Young is the lone departure (transferred to Oregon).

If Rutgers is able to make the NCAA Tournament next season, it would be its first time to secure back-to-back berths since 1974-75 and 1975-76. The 1976 team went 31-2 and made it to the Final Four.

However, Rutgers has made the tournament just five times since that run, including last year’s appearance as a No. 10 seed.

Last season, Harper averaged a team-high 14.9 points per game. He also added 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest — both career highs. Baker has averaged at least 10 points per game in all four seasons of his Rutgers career.
