Rutgers is reportedly heading to a bowl game after all.

An outbreak of positive cases within the Texas A&M football program resulted in the Aggies backing out of the Gator Bowl, and now, it sounds like Rutgers will take their spot. NJ.com reported late Wednesday night that the Scarlet Knights are expected to receive and accept a bid to play in the postseason contest.

Rutgers ended the season with a 5-7 record but had the highest Academic Progress Rate, putting the program at the top of the list. The Scarlet Knights will play Wake Forest in the bowl game.

It’s expected to be formally announced on Thursday, per NJ.com.

The Scarlet Knights had a chance to clinch a bowl berth with a win in the season finale against Maryland. However, Rutgers dropped a 40-16 decision to the Terrapins to close the season with a sub-.500 record.

At the end of the regular season, there were enough teams with 6 wins to fill all bowl vacancies. Because Texas A&M had to back out, teams with a 5-7 record became eligible again.
