Thanks to a big year on the court, Rutgers is prepared to make an offer to keep Steve Pikiell in charge of the basketball team for a little bit longer.

According to NJ.com, the Rutgers University Board of Governors is expected to approve a two-year contract extension for Pikiell. With the extension, Pikiell will be the head coach of the Scarlet Knights through the 2025-26 basketball season.

Pikiell, 52, has been the head coach at Rutgers since the 2016 season. While the program failed to make a postseason appearance in his first three seasons, the Scarlet Knights have an excellent chance at earning a bid in the NCAA Tournament this season. Rutgers is 18-10 on the season and has already won nine B1G games, most in the four seasons Pikiell has been in charge.

The Scarlet Knights have also been unbelievably successful at The RAC this year, posting a 17-1 record on their home floor. The lone defeat came at the hands of Michigan earlier this month.

Specifics of the new contract extension were unknown.
