Just when you start to believe Rutgers might have the slightest bit of momentum, the program suffers a major blow to one of its top talents.

On Tuesday morning, James Kratch of NJ.com reported that Rutgers TE Johnathan Lewis has suffered a “serious” injury, according to a post from Lewis’s father on a Facebook post. Per the report, the injury could cost Lewis the season.

That’s a tough blow for the Scarlet Knights, especially at a position where they’re relatively thin. Lewis made the switch to tight end after also serving as a quarterback in Piscataway for a time. He was considered to be a talented athlete on the roster and a potential difference-maker in the offense.

Lewis’s injury is to his Achilles.

A year ago, Lewis appeared in just four games and utilized a redshirt season. In 2017, he played in seven contests at quarterback off the bench. He has not caught a pass as a tight end for the Scarlet Knights yet.
