Fans on the fence about attending Rutgers football games may have just gotten a little bit of a nudge.

According to Keith Sargent of NJ.com, Rutgers will announce a plan to expand its beer and wine sales at sporting events, including football and basketball games. While alcohol sales have been available in one area of HighPoint.com Stadium — the Audi Club — it will become available to fans in general seating throughout the stadium in 2019.

The expansion of alcohol sales will include general seating areas at the Rutgers Athletic Center, Yurcak Field and baseball and softball games.

Many athletic departments across the B1G and NCAA have started permitting alcohol sales throughout stadiums in an attempt to earn extra revenue. In most cases, the availability of alcohol begins in a specific club or section of the stadium, before expanding throughout the stadium.

HighPoint.com Stadium seats just under 52,500 fans.

Rutgers would become the fifth B1G school to sell alcohol in general seating areas throughout its football stadium, joining Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio State and Purdue. Three other conference schools, Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin, sell alcohol in premium seating areas.

Six B1G schools to do permit alcohol inside the stadium.
