There’s a common belief that bad news comes in sets of three.

For Rutgers this week, that’s been the case. On Wednesday night, it was reported that Scarlet Knights quarterback Mike Dare would be transferring from the program to continue his football career elsewhere. Dare’s announcement makes him the third quarterback to transfer this week.

First, news surfaced that Hayden Rettig would be moving on. Early today, it was reported that starter Chris Laviano would also be on his way out of Piscataway.

Dare was the No. 12 ranked prospect from New Jersey in the 2015 class and was ranked as the No. 18 pro-style quarterback according to Rivals.com. He was redshirted in 2015 and did not see the field in 2016.

The only quarterback returning with much experience for Chris Ash’s second season is Giovanni Rescigno, who threw for 889 yards and had five TDs and five INTs in his redshirt sophomore season.

Rutgers still has a lot of things to fix before it becomes a competitive team in the B1G, but the departure of three quarterbacks in such a short time probably doesn’t help matters.
