Rutgers capped off a disappointing season with another heart-breaking defeat.

The Scarlet Knights entered Saturday’s game against Michigan State 1-10 after losing 10 consecutive games. However, Rutgers held the Spartans at bay much of the evening and took a 10-7 lead with just under eight minutes to go.

Unfortunately, ending the season with an upset win was not meant to be. Michigan State took the lead with 3:57 to go and held on for a 14-10 win.

After finishing the season 1-11, Rutgers now has seven wins in three seasons under head coach Chris Ash. That streak led many to wonder about his future with the program, but Director of Athletics Patrick Hobbs cleared any questions following the game.

Reporter James Kratch with NJ Advance Media shared a screenshot of Hobbs’ comment where he indicated Ash will indeed return for 2019. Hobbs admitted it has been “a difficult and disappointing year,” but he also expressed optimism for next season with Ash at the helm.
