Rutgers has added an FCS opponent to its 2020 schedule.

On Thursday, Rutgers announced that it will open the 2020 season against Monmouth at High Point Solutions Stadium. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5.

According to the press release from the school, it will be the first time Rutgers and Monmouth have met on the gridiron. It’s also the first game against an in-state opponent since the Scarlet Knights hosted Princeton in 1980.

The addition on Monmouth rounds out Rutgers’ schedule for the 2020 campaign. The other two non-conference games are against Syracuse (Sept. 12) and Temple (Sept. 19).

The B1G has made a push to eliminate FCS opponents from the schedule, but with the nine-game conference schedule, the league is allowing teams to schedule games against non-FBS programs during seasons when they have just four B1G home games.

Rutgers will open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 against Texas State.
