Damon Mitchell and Rutgers head coach Chris Ash have a special connection.

Mitchell, a graduating senior running back at Arkansas, announced earlier this month that he was looking to transfer and play as a graduate transfer next season. The only question was which school he would end up choosing.

That question was answered earlier today:

Ultimately, Mitchell chose to go back home for his final season of college football, as he is originally from Egg Harbor City, N.J.

Mitchell’s ties to the Scarlet Knights’ head coach date back to when Ash was the defensive coordinator at Arkansas in 2013. Mitchell played in 27 games through three seasons with the Razorbacks, but had just seven carries this past year.

His decision to play for Rutgers next season also means Mitchell will be playing with his brother, Ahmir.

Damon Mitchell was a three-star recruit coming out of high school back in 2013 as a dual-threat quarterback.
