Greg Schiano continues to do excellent work early on in the recruiting period. Two more in-state products have given verbal pledges to Rutgers this week.

The Scarlet Knights recently received commitments from two three-star prospects — Al-Shadee Salaam and Shaquan Loyal. Both are in-state talents and are listed as top 25 players from the state of New Jersey. They became the fourth and fifth commitments for Rutgers during the recruiting cycle.

Salaam committed on Wednesday evening, making his announcement via Twitter. At 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Salaam is listed as an athlete per 247Sports. He’s ranked as the No. 22 player from the state of New Jersey.

Loyal also made his announcement via Twitter, making a statement along with his commitment. Loyal is a three-star cornerback and is ranked as the No. 76 player at his position in the cycle. He’s the 24th-ranked player out of New Jersey.

“I want to thank all the college coaches who saw something in me, in which you offered me, THANK YOU,” Loyal wrote. “I have decided to take my talent and further my college education at Rutgers University!!!”

It’s still early in the recruiting process, but Rutgers now ranks 24th nationally and seventh in the B1G with its 2021 class. Four of the five players committed to the Scarlet Knights’ class are in-state talents.

Schiano is doing a good job early of putting that fence around the New Jersey area and keeping local talent in the state.
