With the final days of the 2020 recruiting cycle rapidly approaching, Greg Schiano is continuing to add depth to his newly inherited Rutgers roster.

Over the weekend, the Scarlet Knights added two preferred walk-on players to the 2020 recruiting class. Three-star athlete Nasir Montgomery and tight end Kevin Schaeffer both announced their commitments this weekend. Both are from the state of New Jersey.

Montgomery and Schaeffer both made their announcements via Twitter:

Montgomery is listed as a three-star talent at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. He held nine offers during the recruiting cycle, seven of those from FBS programs. He chose to walk on at Rutgers over offers from Boston College, Syracuse, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Buffalo, among others.

Montgomery is listed as one of the top 50 players from the state of New Jersey.

Schaeffer does not have any rankings on 247Sports. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end received interest from Bucknell and Harvard, along with Rutgers.

Schiano has put a heavy emphasis on recruiting the state of New Jersey and making Rutgers a more prominent destination for players in the area. Considering the short time he’s had on the recruiting trail in the 2020 class, he’s doing a good job of gathering interest as the cycle comes to a close.
