Rutgers announces addition, promotion to defensive coaching staff

Rutgers will have a new look staff on the defensive side of the ball this fall.

On Friday, the Scarlet Knights the addition of a new assistant to coach cornerbacks and promoted an existing staff member to safeties coach. That duo will work with new DC Joe Harasymiak who joined Rutgers following a stint at Minnesota.

The first addition was Mark Orphey to coach cornerbacks for the Scarlet Knights. Orphey spent 2021 as a defensive analyst with Nick Saban’s Alabama squad after 2 seasons coaching the secondary at Utah State.

Along with the addition of Orphy, Rutgers announced the promotion of Drew Lascari to safeties coach. Lascari has been with the program since 2018 and has served as a defensive assistant for the past 2 seasons.

That duo will step into the void left by the departure of DB coach Fran Brown. Brown left Rutgers to join the staff of Kirby Smart at Georgia.
