Rutgers is getting closer to twenty commits with its 2021 class and there’s still seven months until the Early Signing Periord.

Greg Schiano landed another pledge on Friday, this time from three-star cornerback Steffan Johnson out of Venice, Florida. He’s the third prospect from the Sunshine State to commit to the Scarlet Knights in the class.

With Johnson’s pledge, Rutgers is now up to 18 commits in the 2021 cycle. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

Johnson is a 6-foot, 160-pound defensive back who received nine other offers on the recruiting front. He picked Rutgers over Marshall, Coastal Carolina, FAU, USF, Virginia, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State.

Per his MaxPreps profile, Johnson was a two-way player at Venice High School as a junior in 2019. As a quarterback, he threw for 404 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 984 yards and 13 scores. Defensively, Johnson totaled 20 tackles and three pass break-ups.

With Johnson’s pledge, Rutgers now has the nation’s 16th-ranked recruiting class and sits at No. 7 in the B1G.
