The success Rutgers enjoyed on the hardwood in the 2019-20 season is spilling over onto the recruiting trail. On Sunday, Steve Pikiell landed a commitment from a top 50 prospect in this year’s class.

Rutgers received a pledge from 6-foot-10 center Cliff Omoruyi, who is ranked as the No. 41 player in the 2020 recruiting class, per 247Sports. He is a native of Roselle, New Jersey and decided to stay within state borders to continue his basketball career.

Omoruyi is the highest-ranked player to commit to Rutgers since 2008. He chose the Scarlet Knights over Arizona State and Auburn.

Omoruyi is also ranked as the No. 8 center in the class and the third-best player from New Jersey.

Rutgers now has four players committed in its 2020 recruiting class, which ranks sixth in the B1G and 31st nationally. Omoruyi is the only player from New Jersey currently committed to play for the Scarlet Knights in the 2020 cycle.

Rutgers finished the regular season with a 20-11 record and an 11-9 mark in B1G play. Before its cancellation, the Scarlet Knights were all but locked in to a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
