Chris Ash had some tough news to report at his Monday press conference, announcing that defensive back Blessuan Austin will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL.

Austin suffered the knee injury in the third quarter of Rutgers’ game last weekend against Nebraska. The seriousness of the injury was unknown at the time, but Ash confirmed the disappointing news on Monday.

Austin is one of the top defenders for the Scarlet Knights and was getting plenty of attention from NFL scouts. He racked up 12 tackles, an interception and a pass deflection in four games.

Despite a 1-3 start, Rutgers’ defense has actually played fairly well, allowing fewer than 300 yards per game and allowing an average of 18.3 points per game.

This is a tough loss for the Scarlet Knights, who host Ohio State this Saturday.
