Rutgers officially has its next offensive coordinator.
After reports surfaced on Friday that Rutgers was finalizing a three-year deal with Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson, the program announced his hiring. The Scarlet Knights sent out a tweet welcoming Gleeson to Piscataway.
It will be a homecoming for Gleeson, who is originally from Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
“Sean is one of the brightest young offensive minds in college football and we are happy to welcome him and his family to Rutgers,” Schiano said in a statement. “He has worked his way up the ranks with a history of developing quarterbacks and highly productive offensive schemes. Sean has shown an ability to devise game plans each week that are adaptable and capitalize on what would bring success against a given opponent. This is an exciting hire for our program and having another New Jersey guy come home to represent his state is special.”
Gleeson was the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach this past season and Oklahoma State went 8-5 overall, averaging 32.6 points per game. That mark ranked 26th nationally and Gleeson’s offense also finished 17th in the country in rushing yards per game, racking up 229.6 yards per contest.
Prior to his time there, he spent the 2013-18 seasons at Princeton working as either a running backs coach or as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
