Rutgers dials up blocked-punt TD for early lead vs. Indiana
Rutgers is on the road and facing Indiana in a B1G East showdown. While a division game is always important, this week’s game has extra stakes for the Scarlet Knights.
Sitting at 5-2 entering the weekend, Rutgers can clinch a spot in the postseason with a win on Saturday. Another victory would give Greg Schiano’s squad 6 on the season and clinch a bowl game before the season even turns to November.
While Indiana did score a touchdown on the game’s opening possession, Rutgers answered with a touchdown of its own and the defense came alive. The Scarlet Knights forced a quick punt on the ensuing drive and allowed the special teams to take over.
On the play, Rutgers’ Shaquan Loyal broke through to block the kick and the ball bounced right to Eric Rogers. Rogers never broke stride and carried the ball all the way back for a go-ahead touchdown.

The game is just about halfway through the second quarter so there is still a long way to go, but Rutgers is clicking so far and leads 14-7. We’ll see if they can finalize a victory and a bowl game down the road.
