One of Rutgers top returning defensive linemen sustained an injury during a team practice on Thursday, head coach Greg Schiano confirmed this weekend.

Mohamed Toure, a junior lineman, suffered an undisclosed injury on Thursday. Per Chris Iseman of NorthJersey.com, the extent of the injury is unknown. Schiano said “there’s some differing opinions medically.”

Toure had a strong season for the Scarlet Knights during the 2021 season, playing in all 13 games and making 5 starts. He finished with 52 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks last season.

Rutgers finished the year with a 5-8 record, making a trip to the Gator Bowl.

Toure is one of the more experienced players on the Rutgers defense entering the 2022 season. He’s spent three seasons in Piscataway and has played in 24 games for his career. He hasn’t missed a contest in each of the past two seasons.

Over his three-year career, Toure has racked up 75 tackles, 13 for loss and 9 sacks.
