Rutgers forces incredibly strange safety against Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones just took one of the strangest safeties you’ll ever see.
It looked like something out of College Football 25 rather than real life. Drones, backed up in his own end zone, felt the pressure from Rutgers’ Front 7 and attempted to scramble out of the pocket. Instead, he tripped over his own right tackle, who was getting bulldozed by a Rutgers end.
For some reason, perhaps desperation, Drones decided to let go of the football despite his momentum going backwards. He ended up launching the ball into the stands directly behind the end zone.

Rutgers is having a fantastic start to their 2024 season, and they’re on their way to 3-0 if they can finish off the Hokies in Lynchburg. Rutgers has the ball and is driving up 16-7 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Drones has had his fair share of struggles today against a strong Scarlet Knights defense. He’s completed just 6 of his 13 passing attempts for 70 yards, also adding 5 rushes for just 17 yards.
Virginia Tech’s start to the season could be perfectly encapsulated by Drones’ safety. The Hokies started the year with some high aspirations but fell to Vanderbilt in the first game of the season. The Hokies bounced back with wins over Old Dominion and Marshall, but now are in danger of falling to 2-2.
