ESPN’s FPI is predicting the record for every team this college football season. For a program looking to make a step forward in 2022, Rutgers could be in for a tough stretch.

For Greg Schiano, he is trying to guide the team to a better showing than the 5-7 regular season mark in 2021. The Scarlet Knights did get to play in a bowl game as a late replacement, but that game turned into a blowout.

The Football Power Index is also seeing a tough schedule for the program in 2022. According to the FPI, Rutgers has less than a 30% chance to win in 8 of the 12 games this season.

Here are the full game-by-game results from the FPI:

  • Sept. 3 at Boston College — 29.7% chance of winning
  • Sept. 10 vs. Wagner — 99.1% chance of winning
  • Sept. 17 at Temple — 74.3% chance of winning
  • Sept. 24 vs. Iowa — 31% chance of winning
  • Oct. 1 at Ohio State — 1.5% chance of winning
  • Oct. 7 vs. Nebraska — 27.6% chance of winning
  • Oct. 22 vs. Indiana — 57.1% chance of winning
  • Oct. 29 at Minnesota — 16.8% chance of winning
  • Nov. 5 vs. Michigan — 11.4% chance of winning
  • Nov. 12 at Michigan State — 9.5% chance of winning
  • Nov. 19 vs. Penn State — 17.2% chance of winning
  • Nov. 26 at Maryland — 17.9% chance of winning

While the Scarlet Knights are underdogs, it is not a role the team is unaccustomed to. We’ll see if Schiano and Rutgers can flip the script again in 2022.
