Rutgers hoops made a move Sunday, picking up a commitment from an in-state point guard prospect.

The player is Derek Simpson, a 6-foot-2 point guard out of Medford, New Jersey for the class of 2022. He plays his high school ball at Lenape High School and has been adding offers over the summer.

Since the start of June, Simpson has been adding offers from St. Joseph’s, Bowling Green, Old Dominion, Northeastern, Arizona State, and St. Bonaventure, among others. He took an official visit to Rutgers on Aug. 3 before making the decision to commit Sunday.

Simpson becomes Rutgers’s second commitment via the class of 2022. He joins 3-star power forward Braeden Moore out of Nashville, Tennessee.
